Mapex Kits Featured in 18 Venues and 95 Showcases at Austin’s Annual Music Conference

Mapex Drums, continuing their 2004 consumer outreach, recently had their professional series drums and hardware featured at the South by Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas. Mapex partnered with Austin retailer and backline company The Music Lab, supplying drum kits at 18 venues during the 4-day event. Mapex gear was used in heavy rotation at showcases throughout the city, including on the stage at the 22nd Annual Austin Music Awards on Wednesday, March 17, 2004, the official kick-off to South by Southwest.

“It was great to see the Mapex name throughout the city of Austin,” exclaimed Mapex Vice President and General Manager Chuck Turk, who was on hand throughout the week. “South by Southwest is a legendary event; presenting our drums there provided us with great national and local recognition. Our products were exposed to hundreds of up and coming artists, who played on Mapex kits.”

As part of their presence at South by Southwest, Mapex hosted a drum clinic at The Music Lab, featuring Rusted Root drummer Jim Donovan. Donovan, who plays a Mapex Orion Orbitor drum set, talked about his career, drumming techniques as well as the Mapex products he endorses, featuring the Black Panther snare drums and Janus Hardware.

South by Southwest Music and Media Conference 2004, in its eighteenth year, took place March 17 - 21, 2004. Mapex drum kits were placed at various venues, clubs and stages throughout the Music Conference. The 5 Mapex kits were outfitted with Meinl Cymbals, who partnered with Mapex in providing cymbals for the drum sets. In total Mapex drums were part of 95 showcases at 18 venues, including the Austin Music Awards, the Convention Center Stage, and the famous Backyard Theater.

“In just 4 days we exposed Mapex products to hundreds of professional drummers in a tremendous musical setting,” Turk continued. “We will continue to reach out to drummers throughout 2004, sponsoring concert tours and events around the country; we are really ramping up our consumer outreach.”
