The K 206 afc transmits its signal to the headphone receiver via UHF (916 MHz) radio frequencies. The system can be used to cover distances of up to 330 ft (100 m), so it is perfect for users who want to listen while working around their house or yard unimpeded by a cable. The K 206 AFC delivers a full, rich sound with velvety bass, clean mids, and an airy high end.
The K 206 afc’s transmitter acts as a storage cradle for the headphones and a charger for the system’s NiMh rechargeable batteries. The rechargeable batteries are included with the system and provide approximately 15 hours of use time. Recharging is as simple as placing the headphone/receiver on the cradle.
The headphone/receiver utilizes AKG’s patented headband design that takes the weight of the unit off your ears and provides an automatic, comfortable fit. The large circumaural ear cups are covered in soft, skin-compatible breathable velour that is completely washable.
The K 206 afc system also features an auto-tuning system that greatly minimizes the potential for interference and an automatic gain control that continuously adjusts the gain of the system for compatibility with all sources.
The industrial design of the K 206 afc was done by Michael Schaefer (www.schaefer-design.at) of Vienna, Austria who has collaborated with AKG on several other products. The proportions, color and surface finish of the K 206 afc are the designer’s masterpiece and their elegance and fluidity totally belie the system’s reasonable price.
Available in June at a list price of $130, the K 206 afc will convince many headphone listeners to join the worldwide club of AKG fans.
