Latin Music’s longest running and most celebrated awards show earned an even higher profile this year, with the 2004 Billboard Latin Music Awards honoring both revered legends and emerging artists. Held at the Miami Arena on April 29, 2004, the awards show was the culmination of the well-attended Latin Music Conference; and it set the benchmark for this burgeoning market with a night of rousing performances and touching tributes. Prestigious audio industry figures and excited fans in attendance enjoyed outstanding sound quality, thanks in part to the widespread use of Audio-Technica microphones. With its support of the Billboard Latin Music Awards, A-T has further established its commitment to Latin Music and expanding its international presence through the formation of key partnerships.

Michael Abbott, Audio Coordinator for the Latin Music Awards, has come to rely on the uncompromising quality of Audio-Technica mics through his experience working with notable broadcast events, including the GRAMMY® Awards and the MTV Latin America Video Music Awards. The audio equipment selection for this year’s Billboard Latin Music Awards was particularly critical, as the show was broadcast live on Telemundo for the first time. Abbott comments on the ease of his decision to use A-T mics: “I can recommend Audio-Technica microphones to a wide demographic of engineers, with the confidence that they’re suitable for a variety of applications because of the clarity, the response, and the low handling noise.” Also, he points out, “A-T has really gone out of their way to interface with the end users. So for me, it’s an easy fit — it just benefits everybody.”

Abbott employed more than 50 A-T mics for this landmark event, incorporated in onstage performances by beloved cultural luminaries Oscar d’Leon, Alicia Keys, and Luis Fonsi. Models featured included the acclaimed Artist Elite® 5000 Series UHF Wireless Systems, along with the Artist Elite hardwired AE5400, AE5100, AE3000, and AE2500, as well as industry favorites such as the AT4050 and ATM25. Voicing specific praise for A-T’s Artist Elite Series, Abbott notes, “I spec’d the new A-T wireless systems because we had used them at the GRAMMYs with great success. They’re flexible, frequency agile, and fit in the spectrum perfectly. That’s just synonymous with the caliber of the microphone that A-T has come up with. They have the frequency-response, warmth, and everything I need in a microphone. The response of the hardwired AE5400 is remarkably precise,” Abbott adds.
