Philadelphia’s University of the Arts and Yamaha Drums will march to the beat of new innovations in drums at a day-long clinic, "DTXplosion," Saturday, October 23 at the University’s Levitt Auditorium, Gershman Y Building, Broad and Pine Streets, beginning at noon. Acoustic and electric drummers from across the region will converge on UArts to be part of a day of hands-on demos, workshops and performances on Yamaha’s newest line of DTX Series digital drums. Three world-famous drummers – acclaimed groove master Akira Jimbo, Drum n’ Bass powerhouse Tony Verderosa and Gospel and Jazz great Marvin McQuitty – will be the guests of honor at this national event.

“Top musicians use Yamaha DTX Series drums for practice and performance,” states Jim Haler, product manager, Yamaha drums. “Digital drums enable drummers to play in certain reverberant venues where an acoustic kit would be too loud. They’re also perfect for aspiring musicians as they help you keep good time, provide a broad range of sounds, and allow you to practice ‘silently’ through headphones. Events like DTXplosion really show current and prospective users how these drums can, and are, being used.”

Marc Dicciani, Director of the School of Music at the University of the Arts, will also perform for the many expected to attend this open-to-the-public event. Yamaha Drum staff will be onhand to answer questions, and provide giveaways throughout the day.
