Guitarist Cody Hice breaks World Record with Gibson Press Release 2004-11-15
At 2:45pm on Tuesday, November 2nd, guitarist Cody Hice broke the World Record for guitar playing endurance, with his Gibson Les Paul. With a new time of 25 hours and 45 minutes, Cody beat the existing world record, set by Sanjeev Babu of India on August 14th and 15th, 2003, of 24 hours and 30 minutes. The attempt was held at The Guitar Center in West Palm Beach, FL and began at 1pm on Monday (Nov. 1st). Compiling a 10 song play list, Cody played each song for one hour, and used a keyboard to program bass and drum beats, which “helped big time to keep me going,” he claimed.
Several years ago, Cody saw the record in the Guinness Book of World Records for guitar playing endurance, and thought to himself, “I can beat that record.” About six months ago, he remembered the record again. “I said to myself that I was going to make the attempt,” remembers Cody. “I called the Guitar Center in West Palm Beach, and asked the Manager, Steve O’Connor, if I could a make the attempt there and he said yes.” So, on November 1st, Cody and Steve set up camp with Steve’s guitar tech, and prepared for the long night ahead of them. “I was jamming the whole time!” says Cody. “It was a blast! I want to do it again. I want someone to challenge my time and when they break my record, I will do it again.”
Cody saw his first guitar when he was seven years old, when his brother brought home a Gibson J-45 Sunburst. Cody was hooked, and has been playing the guitar ever since, including the 12 string which he has been playing for about 15 years. He has owned around 25 guitars over the years with the Les Paul being his favorite, and the one he used to set the new world record at The Guitar Center. “The best guitar I ever owned was an 80’s Les Paul ‘Black Beauty' that I bought from Ed’s Guitars in Miami,” says Cody. “I am SOLD on Gibson guitars and hope to own and play more in the future. I am planning a trip to the factory up in Nashville, soon!”
Now, while Cody is waiting on someone to challenge his record, he is playing and writing original tunes on the electric and acoustic guitar. “To be the best in the world at something I enjoy so much is great!” exclaims Cody. “I feel like the king of the world right now!”
