New Tutorial DVD for TASCAM'S 2488 Released(Tascam | Posted 2004-12-13)  A new instructional video from Mind Media's David Wills is more than just a complete guide to using the 2488: it teaches basic recording techniques to musicians getting their first start in recording. A continuation of TASCAM's "Capture Your Art" campaign to help musicians learn the basics of recording, "TASCAM's 2488 Video Tutorial" begins with a section called "Recording School" that teaches beginners the basics about microphones, multitrack recording and mixing. It goes on for the next 90 minutes to cover every aspect of recording, editing and mixing on the 2488 24-track Digital Portastudio.
"For many users, the 2488 will be their first introduction to multitrack recording," says Jeff Laity, Technical Communications Specialist for TASCAM. "We thought it was essential to begin with a foundation of recording for musicians who don't know a preamp from a panpot. The video goes on to walk the user through every function of the 2488. Even I learned a few things by watching the video – it's one of the most thorough tutorials I've ever watched."
The 2488 is a 24-track, 24-bit Digital Portastudio that sells for under $1,200. Its built-in 36-channnel digital mixer has three band EQ on every channel and a generous selection of compression, mutieffects and reverb processing. Musicians can use the CD-RW drive for burning finished CDs or backing up their tracks, or transfer to a computer using the USB 2.0 interface. The 2488 can record up to eight microphones at once, and it's designed to be simple to use for beginning or advanced users.
