When Chicago-based Brandon Esparza was looking to make his mark on the highly competitive, automotive Sport Compact Show scene, he used his roots as a DJ for inspiration. He then turned to Vestax, a leading brand of innovative DJ and dance music equipment, to help set himself apart from his competitors.

“I was always interested in the import scene and really wanted to make an impression,” stated Brandon, who is an active competitor as a member of Team EDI Projektz. “The typical trunk of a showcar has a speaker box and a 7-inch screen, but I wanted to make my car different. Since I’ve been a DJ for about eight years, I decided to incorporate my love for mixing into my car.”

Brandon’s vision was to transform his stock 2000 Honda Accord into an award-winning show car (“Accord DJ2000”), complete with a fully-functioning DJ rig as the centerpiece, so he equipped the trunk of his car with a Vestax DA-X1000 power amplifier/controller, a PMC-007 mixer, two PDX-2000mkIIPro turntables and a Vestax single cup headphone. However, his award-winning car design doesn’t end there: “When I was in the planning stage of putting all the equipment in the trunk, I didn’t want the Vestax equipment to just lay there, so I designed the turntables to sit at a 45 degree angle until they are raised by remote control to the upright mix position. I installed the mixer to rise up as well. Vestax is the only company making turntables with Dynamic Balance Adjustment, which allowed me to do the 45-degree angle mount. These tables are unbelievable. I can scratch very hard without the needle jumping or skipping while the turntables move up and down.” Add to that the car’s stunning custom graphics featuring the Vestax logo, and Brandon has a true show-stopper on his hands.

The Accord DJ2000 always gets praises wherever Brandon shows the car. “The usual reaction I get is 'Whoa!' when they see the custom Vestax graphics and hear the Vestax DJ battle DVD playing in the car,” he says. “Once they see the equipment in the trunk I get a sign of disbelief followed by a ‘No way.’ Then when I hit the remote to move the turntables and mixer into the upright position, people go crazy!” He concludes, “When I was designing my car, I never expected this great reaction. My ‘DJ Car’ really exceeded my expectations.”
