Yamaha BB Series Electric Basses(Yamaha | Posted 2002-02-15) For years, the Yamaha BB series has helped to define the modern electric bass guitar. With the Winter NAMM 2002 introduction of five new models in both four and five-string configurations, the flagship line should continue to hold up the foundation for years to come.
The BB Nathan East Signature Model II (MSRP $3349) points the way by offering an industry-leading set of features. The new slim-line solid Alder body boasts a premium Maple top for unsurpassed looks, comfort and tone. A Maple and Mahogany neck-thru design delivers exceptional tone and stability all the way across a full two-octave Ebony fretboard. Active electronics-which include two Alnico stack humbucking pickups and a built-in Nathan East NE-1 three-band equalization system-bring a diverse array of tonal possibilities to life. Other highlights include white tuners, plus Gloss Black and Gloss White finishes.
"Our collaboration with Nathan East is a perfect blend between art and craft," explains David Bergstrom, director of marketing, Combo Group, Pro Audio & Combo Division. "From the finish on down to the electronics, these basses reflect Nathan's exacting standards."
Other models in the BB line demonstrate design diversity and range. The humbucker-equipped BB404 four-string (MSRP $499) and BB405 five-string
(MSRP $599) sport solid Alder bodies, Maple necks with 24-fret Rosewood fingerboards, and die-cast chrome hardware, along with passive electronics. The BB604 (MSRP $599) and BB605 (MSRP $699) take the same body materials and add single-coil pickups and an active electronics system that includes master volume, balancer, treble, bass, and mid cut controls, plus a mid cut on/off switch.
All four models are currently available in a choice of finishes including Black, Yellow, Natural Satin, and Wine Red.
"The Yamaha BB Series is new and improved with exciting colors and features not available before," says Gary Cook, product manager, Yamaha Guitars. "These axes show that ultimate performance is within everybody's reach."
