Audio-Technica Expands Midnight Blues Series with Two New Drum Packs

Press Release

2005-08-07

Audio-Technica has expanded its range of Midnight Blues drum miking solutions with the addition of two new Drum Packs at extremely cost-effective price points. The MB/Dk4 Drum Pack consists of three Midnight Blues MB 5k snare/tom microphones, one MB 6k kick drum microphone and three AT8665 drum mic mounts. The MB/Dk6 drum pack consists of two MB 4k overhead/hi-hat microphones, three MB 5k snare/tom microphones, one MB 6k kick drum microphone and three AT8665 drum mic mounts. The AT8665 is a low-profile design drum rim microphone mount that eliminates the need for cumbersome microphone stands. The AT8665 offers flexibility for positioning the mic on the snare or toms while providing a solid and secure microphone mounting that is able to withstand even the hardest of players. Both Drum Packs are confidently backed by Audio-Technica’s exclusive five-year limited warranty and come in eye-catching, attractive packaging designed to stand out on the retail sales floor.

The MB/Dk4 drum pack (shown) — a perfect small club microphone solution

The cornerstone of the MB/Dk4 drum pack is the MB 5k cardioid dynamic snare/tom microphone (three included), which is custom-engineered for use on snare and toms. Featuring durable all-metal construction and a low-profile percussion-style design, the MB 5k comes with a built-in adjustable stand mount. It has a frequency response of 100-12,000 Hz, sensitivity of -58 dB (I.2 mV), 500 ohm impedance and a corrosion-resistant gold-plated XLRM-type connector. In addition, the MB 5k has a high-output design with low mechanical noise due to A-T’s special anti-shock engineering.

The MB 6k cardioid dynamic kick microphone was specifically engineered for use on kick drum or low-frequency percussion. It also employs Audio-Technica’s Hi-ENERGY® neodymium magnet structure for maximum output and fast transient response. Featuring rugged all-metal construction and a low-profile percussion style design, the MB 6k has a frequency response of 60-12,000 Hz, sensitivity of -59 dB (1.1 mV) and a corrosion-resistant gold-plated XLRM-type connector.

The MB/Dk6 drum pack — perfect for larger clubs or project studio application

The MB/Dk6 drum pack expands on the MB/Dk4 drum pack system with the addition of two MB 4k overhead/hi-hat microphones. Designed for the drummer needing additional microphones for capturing cymbals, the MB 4k cardioid condenser microphone features a condenser design for studio-quality performance, extended response for smooth, natural sonic characteristics, rugged all-metal construction, an on/off switch, soft-touch finish for durability and minimal mechanical noise, battery/phantom operation and comes with the AT8405a stand clamp with 5/8"-27 to 3/8"-16 threaded adapter. The MB 4k has a frequency response of 80-20,000 Hz, sensitivity of -46 dB (5.0 mV) and an integral, corrosion-resistant gold-plated XLRM-type connector.

Commenting on the launch of the Midnight Blues MB/Dk4 and MB/Dk6 Drum Packs, Gary Boss, A-T Marketing Director, stated, “Our goal was to create a high-quality, cost-effective drum miking solution. The new Midnight Blues Drum Packs offer drummers an easy way to mic their kit whether playing live or recording in the project studio. Plus they are backed by A-T’s five-year limited warranty.”

The Audio-Technica MB/Dk4 and MB/Dk6 Drum Packs will be available in July 2005 with U.S. MSRPs of $199.00 and $449.00, respectively.
