Nady Expands Ribbon Mic Line(Nady | Posted 2005-10-18)  Nady Systems recently announced the addition of 4 new ribbon microphones, thereby expanding the current line to 5 models. In addition to the original, popular RSM-2, the line now also includes the RSM-1, 3, 4, and 5. All 5 models offer the same unparalleled, uncompromised sound of a classic ribbon (velocity) mic, but each are designed and configured differently for better suitability for varied specific applications.
All models feature low-tension aluminum ribbon design (although with slightly differing thickness and lengths) and the typical “large, mellow” ribbon audio reproduction with smooth, natural extended low and high ends. All 5 models also have fast, accurate transient response, ultra-high SPL capability, and overall stunning realism. Other features include: Figure-8 audio directional (pickup) pattern for both front and rear wide, extended sweet spots (as compared to large diaphragm condenser mics); increased off-axis high frequency response on sides, with decreased high response above and below on-axis; individual recording volume control of separate sources; and machined housing with advanced internal shock mount construction for the highest structural integrity and rugged reliability.
Although all 5 RSM mics perform superbly in a broad range of applications, each one has slightly different ribbon construction, audio sensitivity and reproduction, and housing shape so that each is uniquely suited and adaptable for specific applications depending on the subjective demands of the recording engineer. For example, the RSM-4 is particularly recommended for miking instruments and guitar amp cabinets; the RSM-3 is a great ambient sound and choral mic; the RSM-1 is best for use in all-around applications requiring a compact mic; and the RSM-5 is perfect for instrument miking requiring compact mic size. The original RSM-2 is well suited for all-purpose ribbon mic applications.
Given the remarkable affordability of the entire RSM Series, studios can acquire all 5 RSM models for about the same cost of most competitive single units, thus allowing the audio advantages of ribbon mics in many more recording applications than ever before.
The new RSM Series models began shipping in the third quarter of 2005.
