Fender
Posted 2006-05-17
Starting Friday, May 12, international human rights organization Amnesty International is presenting an online auction of five Fender instruments signed by celebrity supporters of Music For Human Rights. Proceeds from the auction will benefit victims of the ongoing conflict in the Darfur region of Sudan in Africa.
The United Nations estimated in March 2005 that 180,000 people in the region had died in the previous 18 months, mostly due to starvation and disease, with more than 1.8 million people displaced from their homes.
The auction will continue throughout June, and features the guitars, plus autographed T-shirts, photos, posters, prints, apparel and many other items. The five Fender instruments are:
- A ’50s classic Stratocaster guitar in used condition signed by Audioslave’s Tom Morello, a supporter of Music For Human Rights.
- A new Sunburst resonator guitar signed by Suzanne Vega.
- A new Natural-finish Telecaster® Thinline guitar signed by Collective Soul.
- A new Geddy Lee Jazz Bass® guitar signed by Incubus.
- A new Silver resonator guitar signed by All.
Round one of the auction begins at 7 p.m. EST on Friday, May 12, and concludes at 7 p.m. EST on Monday, May 22. Round two begins at 7 p.m. EST on Monday, May 22, and concludes at 7 p.m. EST on Thursday, June 1; round three begins at 7 p.m. EST on June 1, and concludes at 7 p.m. EST on Sunday, June 11.
