Marantz Displays Innovative CDR420 Portable CD Recorder Press Release 2006-06-24
D&M Professional, manufacturer of the renowned Marantz Professional line of recording products, has led the industry in professional field recording solutions for decades. Marantz continues this charge with the powerful and flexible CDR420 Portable CD Recorder. More than just a simple recorder, the Marantz Professional CDR420 contains a hard disk for recording, has cut-and-paste editing, and a CD writer for burning Red Book-compatible audio, or MP3 discs. The CDR420 is a complete recording solution in a compact, portable package — there’s even a built-in microphone — designed to handle any field situation. For court proceedings, municipal meetings, once-in-a-lifetime events, concerts or anywhere audio needs to be recorded, the CDR420 delivers with exceptional flexibility and impeccable audio quality. An optional RPS420 Rechargeable Battery System is available for the CDR420 to facilitate remote recording or power backup.
Because the CDR420 records 44.1 kHz mono or stereo WAV or MP3 files directly to its internal 20 GB hard drive, it is capable of instant field editing — cut, copy, paste, insert silence and split track functions are all available. CDs can be burned in standard Red Book audio format or in ISO9660 data format containing WAV and/or MP3 files. Multiple MP3 bitrates allow the user to specify the best combination of audio quality and record time.
Other CD features include the ability to read and display CD text information from standard audio CDs, and a Copy CD function for copying audio discs. Auto Track Increment automatically creates track marks at user-selected intervals, and a timer record function allows users to program record start and stop times for unattended operation.
The CDR420 can read, display and edit ID3 tags on MP3 files; a standard PS2 keyboard can be used for easy text editing, and instant file naming during recording, and adds shortcuts to system functionality. Built-in I/O connectivity allows fast uploading of data from the hard drive to a computer, and Windows® XP disk tools (error check, defragment) can be utilized through the system’s I/O port.
The CDR420 is all about capturing outstanding field audio, and provides unparalleled audio support. There are balanced XLR mic/line inputs with +48 Volt phantom power and mic/line attenuation pads, as well as unbalanced line inputs on RCA and S/PDIF digital I/O. A stereo headphone jack and built-in speaker allow for monitoring in the field, and automatic record level, limiter and manual record modes enable the user to maximize input levels while preventing distortion. Recording filters help minimize background noise, audible fast-forward and rewind provide easy, quick locating within a track, and a 3-band equalizer optimizes audio quality on playback.
Like all Marantz Professional products, the CDR420 is built to handle the rigors that occur in real-world field recording situations; it’s designed to provide years of faithful service. The firmware can be upgraded via CD or the I/O port for performance enhancements in the future.
