Mackie HRS-120 Studio Subwoofer

Mackie HRS-120 Studio Subwoofer

Press Release

2002-03-05

Mackie Designs Inc. (NASDAQ: MKIE), showed today their recently introduced THX( PM3 certified, 400 watt studio subwoofer system powered by Mackie Active Technology. This is the same technology behind Mackie's award winning HR824. The HRS120 Active Subwoofer is designed to be the perfect companion to Mackie's HR824, or new HR624 near field monitors, or any multi-channel monitoring system that requires a dedicated low frequency channel.

"Today, more and more 5.1, 7.1 and higher mixing is being done for television, movies, DVD and even music," stated Keith Olsen, Director of Market Development, Recording Products. "This has created a need for multi-channel studio monitoring systems that include a dedicated subwoofer. The HRS120 not only fills this role, but complements any two-channel system that could benefit from bass extension to 19Hz and below."

The HRS120 features a 12-inch (305mm) RCF Precision(, LF transducer with a 4-inch voice coil and cast aluminum frame. Low bass output is enhanced with an acoustically coupled 12-inch passive radiator. Power is provided by a 400-watt FR Series low distortion, servo feedback amplifier.

The rear panel offers an array of control options including adjustable crossover with high pass outputs for use with full range monitors, 110Hz elliptical filter for Dolby( AC-3, Output Level switch for AC-3 and THX( Dot1 recording, Crossover Defeat for THX operation, Polarity and a rotary Input Sensitivity control.

Connections include balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA style. Slave In and Master Out options allow multiple woofers to be "daisy-chained" together while two 1/4-inch phone jacks accommodate a subwoofer bypass footswitch and bypass indicator.

The ultra robust cabinet is constructed of 3/4-inch MDF on all sides with 1-inch MDF on bottom and 1 1/4-inch MDF on top. Internal "H" bracing keeps the cabinet rigid and a high-quality vinyl coating provides a finished appearance at home in even the most posh studios.

The HRS120 has a U.S. suggested retail price of $1499.00 and will begin shipping in January 2002. For those that can't wait, the HRS120 is currently on display, along with the new HR624 Active Studio Monitors, at Mackie's "e-Show at www.mackie.com. Scheduled to run through December, the e-Show is a fully interactive, online tradeshow exhibit that is a joint effort between Mackie, Eastern Acoustic Works (EAW) and Mackie Industrial.

The HRS120 has a U.S. suggested retail price of $1499.00 and is currently on display at the 2002 Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, California, January 17-20. The Mackie booth is located in the Anaheim Convention Center, booth #6766.
