Korg USA Introduces OT-120 Orchestral Tuner

Korg

Posted 2006-07-14

Korg presents the OT-120 Orchestral Tuner, a chromatic tuner that has been optimized for the tuning of wind and string instruments. The new tuner boasts a wide calibration range (from 349 to 499 Hz in 1 Hz steps), an extremely broad tuning range and a host of enhanced features specifically designed to meet the tuning needs of all brass and orchestral instruments.

With its vertical design, superior visibility and rear-panel stand, the OT-120 is equally suited for hand-held operation or placement on a music stand or table. It offers a high-precision needle-type meter to accurately indicate pitch, with a wide detection range of A0 (27.5 Hz) to C8 (4,186 Hz), and an accuracy of ±1.5 cent. Also featured are two flat/sharp LEDs and a comprehensive backlit LCD screen that shows battery level, sound output level, calibration, key, and note name.

The OT-120’s multi-temperament function provides eight frequently used historical temperaments for authentically tuning period instruments. Twelve types of transposing keys are provided for wind instruments, including both sharps and flats. Three types of tuning modes are offered: Auto, Manual and Sound Back. Auto mode offers an adjustable needle response speed (slow, medium, fast) and automatically detects the pitch of a single note played on the input instrument. Manual mode lets users specify the desired note name. The user can also select an audible reference tone over a five octave range, or use the Sound Back mode, which produces the reference pitch closest to the one played into the tuner. Players can use either the built-in mic or the optional CM-100 contact mic, which is well suited for pitch training or tuning acoustic instruments. A two-step output control adjusts volume level and a large dial makes mode selection quick and convenient.

The new OT-120 tuner features an aluminum housing, 1/4" input and output jacks and extended battery life (greater than 100 hours with two AAA batteries). An optional AC adapter is available. Measuring a compact 2.91" (W) X 4.72" (D) X 1.42" (H) and weighing a mere 6.81 ounces (including batteries) the OT-120 comes complete with a soft, protective case.

The Korg OT-120 is currently available with a U.S. MSRP of $139.
