For the second year in a row, Mapex was the predominant drum provider for the annual French Quarter Festival in New Orleans, LA. The 24th annual event took place April 13-16 and Mapex M Birch and Pro M drumsets were featured on six stages throughout the French Quarter. The French Quarter Festival features local musicians performing on multiple stages located on Bourbon Street, Royal Street, Jackson Square and Woldenberg Riverfront Park. The musical selection ranges from brass bands to vocalists to funk bands performing everything from jazz, blues, gospel, zydeco and Latin music. The free event draws visitors from around the world as well as from nearby neighborhoods. More than 150 acts performed over 250 hours of music.

Ray Fransen’s Drum Center in Kenner, LA is the area’s most influential percussion retailer and his company provides assistance in facilitating the festival with its drumming needs. In addition, shop owner Ray Fransen’s band always takes the stage for a set during the event.

“In spite of some rainy weather, the people still came out and everybody’s having a great time,” commented Fransen. “That’s what this festival is all about. It gives this community an opportunity to celebrate itself and the things that make New Orleans a great city.”

In addition to the wide variety of music, the festival also featured many activities for children and in the fine New Orleans tradition, an incredible variety of food. Over forty local restaurants came together to serve the “World’s Largest Jazz Brunch” throughout the weekend, making sure the crowds had plenty of food and beverage.

“This is an old-fashioned, good time event,” said Joe Vasko, Vice President and General Manager for Mapex USA. “The music is fantastic, the vibe is relaxed and New Orleans is a city that for sure knows how to host a party.”
