Fender Passport P150 Portable PA ReviewFenderPosted 2001-07-24 O.K, You've been working on your tunes, you've got your song list all lined up, you changed the strings on your acoustic, you got a new hairstyle, and you're finally ready for your first real gig at the local coffee shop. Is there anything you might have forgotten? Hmm-mm Don't think so? Well guess what, Waldo - they can't love you if they can't hear you!! You're going to need a little basic sound reinforcement here ( a.k.a, a sound system ) so that the folks sitting in the second row behind your mom and your significant other will be able to hear what you're doing up there. But never fear!! The engineers at Fender Pro Audio have designed a portable sound system - the Passport 150 - that will really get your sound out there and maybe even impress those agents in the back of the room enough to land you that elusive record deal you've been dreaming about!
The Fender Passport 150 is a very well designed system. Right out of the box you'll be fully-equipped with a mixer/amplifier, two speaker enclosures, a microphone with 20 ft cable, and two 30 ft speaker cables. Lightweight (approx 45 lbs) and compact, the entire system folds into a single unit no bigger than a medium-sized suitcase, so you won't be needing a U-Haul to get yourself to the gig. And for the borderline techie, setup is a breeze. Just plug in the two speakers, plug in the microphone, and let 'er rip.
But don't be fooled by its compact size. This gentle 150 watt stereo giant has enough built-in features to transform it into a very sophisticated sound system. The mixer allows input of up to three mikes, instruments or other audio devices and each of the three channels has its own control for volume, EQ, reverb/effects, as well as an individual pan control. The third channel also features a pair of RCA input connectors which act as an additional input channel, allowing the system to 'sum' the two inputs of this channel and send the combined signals to the mix. Master controls are easily accessible to maintain the main system volume and to control the reverb and main system EQ. There are also individual controls to maintain the EQ (separate HI and LO) and to control the system reverb/aux effects and balance. It's even got a set of RCA jacks that can be used to input a tape deck or CD player directly through the system. And when you think you've really got your tunes together, you can hook up a tape machine or other recording device to the TAPE OUT output jacks and record your set for later review. The mixer also features fully controllable digital reverb to give your voice and instruments true big-system sound.
The Bottom Line:
The Fender Passport 150 is a powerful, compact, portable PA system that can be used to provide professional sound reinforcement for your next musical performance, business meeting, graduation party or bachelor bash!! Available on the street for approximately $500.00, you can't go wrong with this audio powerhouse that bears the dependable Fender name.
