Music City Embraces PhantomFocus System for Critical Monitoring

A clear pattern has emerged showing that one of the recording capitals of the world, Nashville, Tennessee, is increasingly choosing the Carl Tatz Design (CTD) PhantomFocusTM Monitor System as the audio reference solution for critical listening. The most recent expression of this trend is its implementation by several of Nashville's leading commercial facilities and personal home studios that allows their speakers of choice to perform beyond the manufacturer's specifications, correcting boundary and room mode effects and rendering a truly accurate reference monitoring system with near holographic imaging. The PhantomFocus Monitor System, which can be employed in any acoustic environment in either stereo or 5.1 configuration, is an unprecedented tool for attaining consistent, accurate monitoring with a higher level of professional confidence.

Indeed, many Nashville studios have begun to employ the PhantomFocus Monitor System. The Grip, a state-of-the-art, home recording studio owned by Rascal Flatts bass player and producer of Chicago XXX, Jay DeMarcus, who last year engaged CTD to design and build his studio from the ground up featuring two PhantomFocusTM Monitor Systems as the centerpieces of both the control room and editing suite. Commenting on his monitoring environment Jay DeMarcus stated, "The PhantomFocus Monitor System is incredibly transparent. When you sit in the sweet spot you can almost reach out and touch the individual tracks. Carl Tatz has perfected the art of designing a professional, accurate listening environment. That's why I've asked him to design and build another new room."

Platinum Lab is one of Music City's top commercial recording studios. With a range of clients that include Randy Jackson, Tommy Sims, Rascal Flatts and India.Arie, Platinum Lab Recording is home to artists from all genres of music. When it came time to take their monitoring system to the next level, studio owners Michael and Laura Morena turned to Carl Tatz Design and the PhantomFocus Monitor System. Commenting on their new monitoring system, Michael Morena stated, "After installing our PhantomFocus Mid-Field Monitor System, Platinum Lab has graduated from being primarily a tracking room to a sought after mix room as well. Now our clients "stick around" and they all say the same thing - We've never heard anything like this before. Thank you Carl!"

That sentiment is echoed by leading mastering engineer Jim Demain of Yes Master Studios, one of Nashville's foremost mastering houses who's clients include Jimmy Buffet, Marty Stuart and Steve Earle. Jim Demain stated, "Once we engaged Carl Tatz Design to design our new mastering suite and PhantomFocus Monitor System, we felt very confidant that the results would be superb and boy are they ever."

The PhantomFocus Monitor System is available exclusively from Carl Tatz Design and can be employed in any monitoring environment regardless of current monitoring configuration.

About the PhantomFocusTM Monitor System

Once the basic acoustic treatment has been accomplished, Carl Tatz Design's proprietary PhantomFocusTM Monitor System offers clients a unique opportunity to have a truly world class monitoring experience in their room, no matter how modest they may perceive it to be. The PhantomFocus Monitor System allows their monitors of choice to perform accurately at a full 20Hz to 20KHz frequency response with pinpoint imaging in an almost holographic sweet spot -- this enables their mixes to travel anywhere with a new level of sonic accuracy. There are approximately fifty steps in the proprietary PhantomFocus Monitor System implementation protocol, some of which may include phase and laser alignment, damping, isolation mounts, careful assessment of engineer/speaker placement relative to their room's primary axial modes, proprietary speaker distance and angle, crossover points for pass filtering, and finally parametric equalization. Hardware can include, monitor stands, concrete, sorbothane and other isolation materials, custom floating plenum mounts, subwoofer system, custom crossover, parametric equalizers and the monitors themselves (passive or active). The evaluation and implementation is a full two-day process and can be applied to near-fields, mid-fields, and large soffit mounted monitors, regardless of manufacturer. Carl Tatz Design can install the PhantomFocus Monitor System in existing control rooms or in studios that are designed and built from the ground up by CTD. The result is like the aural equivalent of HD TV. Once you experience a PhantomFocus Monitor System you can't go back.
