Scott's Crispy Cream Treble Booster

(Press Release | Posted 2002-07-17)

Scott's Crispy Cream Treble Booster

Totally Humungus Productions has released Scott's Crispy Cream Treble Booster, a guitar effects pedal that drives a tube amplifier to produce a musical type of distortion. The pedal's circuit was refined by proprietor Scott Humphrey in his attempt to emulate the guitar sounds of his favorite musician--Brian May of the band Queen.

The effect works based on the following principles. As the gain of a classic tube amplifier is increased its bass response becomes exaggerated and often sounds muddy. The treble booster cleans up the lower frequencies while pushing the preamp tubes very hard with amplified mid and upper frequencies. The result is a fat, creamy guitar distortion with a pleasant blend of upper frequency crispness--hence the name Crispy Cream.

The Crispy Cream Treble Booster is based on the circuits of the famous Dallas Rangemaster and the Vox Treble Booster units. The final design, though, is unique, and great effort was made to achieve the best possible tone while reducing the self-noise and interference that often plagued those earlier pedals. Each unit is built by hand. Every pedal is tested and played before shipping.

Price per pedal is $185 to $199 depending upon the options selected. Each unit is made to order.
