Denon Shows DN-780R Twin Output Auto-Reverse Professional Cassette Deck Recorder

Press Release

2003-03-27

Denon Electronics, a leader in professional quality recording and playback systems, is exhibiting the DN-780R Twin Output Auto-Reverse Cassette Deck Recorder. This unit contains a completely redesigned cassette mechanism plus numerous innovative features such as completely independent A/B deck operation, along with flexible input and output connections, an optional balanced XLR Input/Output board, and a variety of wired remote connection terminals.

With the DN-780R, Denon has taken the concept of the dual cassette deck recorder beyond the normal dubbing modes (Normal and Double-Speed) and continuous record and playback functions, and has provided the flexibility of completely independent deck operation. This independent functionality, coupled with twin inputs and outputs, allows for advanced playback and recording scenarios, including: the ability to playback or record (Twin Record function) two separate signals at the same time; the ability to use one deck for playback while recording the same or a separate signal to the other deck; and the DN-780R’s Relay Play/Record feature, which cycles through both sides of deck A and then both sides of deck B for four sides of uninterrupted playback or recording. This function can then be taken a step further with the unit’s Cascade In/Out terminals’ ability to be connected to other DN-780R’s, which yields even greater uninterrupted recording and playback time. Multiple synchronized recordings can also be easily made using one or more DN-780R’s.

Another advancement Denon has achieved with the DN-780R is the inclusion of multiple remote and synchronization control terminals. Supported connectivity includes: External Synchronized In/Out (for use in conjunction with Cascade mode connecting multiple DN-780R’s); built-in Serial D-Sub 9 pin (RS-232C) connection; Parallel D-Sub 25 pin connection; and Mini TRS connection, supporting remote Play, Fast Forward, Rewind, Stop, Pause, and Record/Record Mute functions. For convenience, an Infrared (IR) Remote sensor has also been added for wireless remote operation.

The Denon DN-780R is available with an optional XLR Input/Output board, offering fully balanced and independent inputs and outputs for both decks. Furthermore, separate Input Select switches per deck facilitate selection between balanced and unbalanced XLR inputs. Additionally, with the optional ACD-780 XLR Input/Output card installed, a Mono Output switch gives the option of +18dBu (CD) and +4dBu (Tape) mono output from the unit’s respective Left channels or -10dBu mono output (CD and Tape) from the unit’s respective Right channels. This allows the user to select the DN-T625’s output depending on the application, i.e. house feed (Left channel +18dBu mono [CD] and +4dBu mono [Tape]) or distributed sound (Right channel -10dBu mono [CD and Tape]).

Other useful features of the DN-780R include two 1/4" Tip/Sleeve mic jacks on the front panel, which enable the microphone input to be monitored with or without recording it to tape. This is selectable via a Mic Record Mode switch. The mic inputs also have a switchable Manual/Auto Gain Control. Headphone output with selectable Deck A, Deck B, or Mix inputs allows for easy and discrete monitoring of playback. Denon’s standard cassette deck features, such as Return-to-Zero function, Music Search mode, and independent tape counters for each deck are included, along with sonically advanced playback enhancements like Dolby® B/C Noise Reduction System, Dolby HX Pro Headroom Extension, and a dedicated MPX filter for elimination of the 19kHz pilot tone present when recording from FM broadcast sources. Additional interface inclusions are an independent Tape Speed Control (±12%), an Auto Tape Selector (Normal, CR02, Metal), and independent FL Peak Hold level meters.

The unit comes in a standard 19-inch, 3RU housing with an aluminum front panel and quick Auto Reverse and non-slip reel drive components. New remote control options now available for the DN-780R include the RC-U620 hand held IR remote, the RC-41 wristwatch IR remote, and the RC-770TW wired remote.

The DN-780R is available immediately for an MSRP of $699.00.
