Berkleemusic students enjoy a rich online learning environment based on Berklee College of Music curriculum where they can collaborate with other like-minded students and receive one-on-one guidance from Berklee professors.

Four new online courses will be offered for the semester starting June 16, 2003: Pro Tools 101 - Berklee/Digidesign Certification, The Music of John Lennon: The Beatles Years, Songwriting Workshop, and MIDI Sequencing Basics.

Pro Tools 101 - Berklee/Digidesign Certification

As Digidesign's exclusive provider of online Pro Tools 101 instruction, Berkleemusic brings you Digidesign's three-day course, offered at authorized DIGI training centers, with the convenience of online instruction. Using real-world examples and frequent hands-on assignments, the course teaches the skills needed to record, edit, and mix on a basic level using a Digidesign Pro Tools system.

The Music of John Lennon: The Beatles Years

Learn the musical reasons why John Lennon's remarkable songs from 1964-69 sound just as fresh and inventive today. By examining his greatest works through the major song elements -- form, lyric, melody and harmony -- you'll see the sturdy underpinnings beneath the brilliant surfaces. Whether or not you have formal musical training, you'll learn how Lennon utilized these elements to create a magical and enduring body of work.

Songwriting Workshop

Whether you're a relative beginner or an experienced songwriter, you'll learn how to brainstorm ideas, overcome writer's block, and express yourself more effectively in words and music. Combining technical principles with pure creative expression, this hands-on workshop will help you find your voice, sharpen your craft, and create songs listeners will appreciate and remember.

MIDI Sequencing Basics

With hands-on lessons and downloadable examples, you'll learn how to create natural-sounding MIDI arrangements using the Berkleemusic version of Reason music synthesis and sequencing software which comes free with this course. You'll also learn how to record parts, use different sounds, effects, and devices including a mixer, sound modules, a drum machine, and effects such as reverb and EQ.
