Long-time Autoharp Endorser June Carter Cash Passes Away Press Release 2003-05-24
Long-time endorser of the Oscar Schmidt Autoharp, June Carter Cash passed away Friday, May 16th at 73 years old. June began her extensive career singing and playing autoharp with "Mother Maybelle and the Carter Sisters", a family band comprised of her mother (an original member of The Carter Family) and her two sisters, Helen and Anita. Taught to play Autoharp by her mother, Carter Cash gave her first public performance in 1937.
She will be remembered fondly for her talent and compassion. According to her daughter Rosanne, "There were two kinds of people in her world: those she knew and loved and those she didn't yet know but loved." Many well-known celebrities came to pay homage to Nashville's Matriarch including Sheryl Crow who performed "On the Sea Of Galilee" on an Oscar Schmidt Autoharp for the ceremony.
Oscar Schmidt is sad to see the passing of such a wonderful musician and person. June Carter Cash is truly an icon of country music. She will be greatly missed.
