Dunlop Describes the New MXR Auto Q

Dunlop Describes the New MXR Auto Q

Press Release

2001-08-08

This Auto Q doesn't just get funky, it grabs your tone and rubs your nose in it! If you know how typical envelop filters work... well forget it, because we didn't copy them. Instead, we re-defined what an auto wah can do to funki-fy your sound.

The Auto Q triggers at ANY playing level, not just for your loudest notes. We've made the effects amplitude-independent, so you get the exact same effects at high volume or low. Come out front with your solo then drop back for a rhythm fill and your tone mods stay constant throughout.

This box delivers more tone control and more versatility than any envelope filter ever made. Check out these controls: The RANGE knob selects how low the automatic "wah" will reach. The "Q" control (made famous on the Crybaby Wah Wah Pedal)controls the effects intensity, by providing a sharp frequency peak or a broader, more subtle peak. VOLUME goes to 11 or any place below. The BAND switch selects the frequency ceiling where the effect will dominate, LO, MID or HI.

We could have stopped there.. but we didn't. Instead, we added a whole new flavor to the Auto Q with the RATE knob. The RATE knob dials in variable shimmer that operates INDEPENDENTLY of the automatic wah section. And the BLEND know selects which effect has more prominence - the automatic wah (crank left) or the variable shimmer (crank right). Point the BLEND knob straight up for equal doses of both.

Finally, there's the DECAY control that can quickly become your secret tone weapon. For the automatic wah section, it simply controls the dropoff of the effect. But when the BLEND is used to crank in some shimmer, the DECAY controls the transition from one effect to the other. Start your note with automatic wah and finish it off with a shimmering flourish. You can't get these noises anywhere else!
