Release Peavey Expands RQ Series Mixer Line Press Release Peavey Electronics expands the RQ series of mixers to include the new RQ 4324C and 4332C. Like many advances in technology, the price of the mixer has gone down while the number of features available has increased significantly. Features such as sweepable mid-frequency and assignable sub groups are now available for people who have less experience mixing live sound. Keeping this in mind, Peavey has added features to the RQ 4332C and 4324C that help the non-professional get great results and also will be appreciated by more experienced sound engineers. Both the RQ 4324C and 4332C are 24/32 channel, four-bus mixers ideal for churches and club installations. Each channel has six auxiliary sends, and two fully assignable stereo returns. Each channel also has a sweepable mid-frequency, and frequency variable low cut for maximum EQ control. There are two super channels with pad and polarity buttons and two zones of switchable phantom power. Each channel can be assigned to left, right, or a separate mono bus. This could be used for a recording bus or as a separate mix for a center cluster or remote room. The four buses each have built-in compressors. These are soft knee and require minimal setting, and have threshold and post-compression gain controls. The compressors are equipped with reverse-wired inserts if compression is needed either on a channel or on the outputs. All that is needed is a 1/4" TRS stereo cable. Compressors 1/2 and 3/4 are stereo linkable, and inserts are on the left, right and mono outputs. All of the outputs, along with auxiliaries 1 through 4, have XLR balanced outputs. The 1/4" line inputs on the two stereo channels can be used at the same time as the XLR inputs on those channels; separate input gain controls are provided. This increases the number of inputs from 28 to 36 that can be used simultaneously. Both mixers feature a universal switching power supply. Both new boards are designed ergonomically. The RQ 4300s have a slanted top, which means the operator won't be leaning over the board while working to see the controls. In addition, the input jacks are inset on the back of the unit, keeping the wires out of sight. Well, there you have it. Now start saving your pennies. We know we will be. Music Gear ReviewsMusicYo Yo-100 Folk Rig Acoustic Guitars Purchased from MusicYo.com for $79.99 (comes with gig-bag and tuner, guitar alone lists for $69.99). I was looking for a starter guitar for my son, and not knowing whether it would be something that he'd take to and stick with, I didn't want to spend $250-$400. Fortunately, I was also in the market for a new electric for myself and stumbled upon MusicYo.com. If you have any doubts whatsoever about MusicYo.com, let me alleviate them now. They are a class-act outfit with great products and service. I'm pleased that they are a sponsor for Music Gear Review. There's nothing to jump up and down about when you first lay eyes on this guitar. No fancy looks, just a spruce top (not laminate), rosewood fretboard, jumbo nickel frets, etc. The finish is nice, with no anomalies that I've been able to find. Once you pick this guit-fiddle up and start hammering out some chords is when you start getting a twinge of excitement. It's very bright sounding and has a smooth action. Once tuned, this flatbox played very nicely straight out of the box. Barre chords are easily attainable without feeling like you have to crush the neck if that helps speak for the quality of the action. The only gripe I had with the YO-100 is that it shipped with medium-gauge strings. I see no need for mediums on any acoustic. I tossed some GHS Phosphor Bronze extra-lights on it and wow! The action is super-slick and I gave up nothing in terms of tone, brightness or volume projection. As noted before, construction of the YO-100 is such that it looks nice, plays great and stays in tune. What more can you ask of a flatbox, especially for only $69.99. I've had $200-$400 Yamaha, Alvarez and Fender acoustics, and while they were a bit more fancy looking, they didn't play a great deal better. The gig-bag and tuner that come as part of the $79.99 package make this a great starter for anyone, or a nice "beater" guitar for campfires and such. Keep in mind, I only use the term "beater" because of the price. The quality of the YO-100 is such that it could easily be fitted with a pickup and taken on stage (and I can't say I condone the beating of any instrument..hehe). If you're not after fancy looks and just want a functional fiddle that sounds nice and plays nice, this is your guitar. If I had paid $200.00 for the YO-100, I'd be giving it a rating of 4, but the price makes it a 5. 5 Larry Oster Taylor Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitars Purchased at Guitar Center for $249 for my son. Good 3/4 size for my son. Nice action. Fun to bang on around the campfire or as a second guitar when a pick'n friend comes over. Thin sound but what do you expect from such a small box. Good construction. Typical Taylor. Nice little guitar well made nice action best option I could find for my sons 7 year old hands. 4 Jimmy Aria Nextar N-20H Electric Guitars I bought this lovely guitar from my local guitar shop where I take lessons, Twin Rivers Music of Columbus, OH. I paid $219 for the guitar. I bought it because it was in my price range, and for price/value ratio, this guitar sounds great. I also decided on this because it had already been sent to a custom shop for set up. The Aria packs a powerfull number of playing options. With triple pickups, the bridge being a humbucker, and the standard 5-position selector switch, I'd take this over a Fender any day. The humbucker has a coil-tap, for single operation as well. The guitar has impecable sustain, and will go as long as you'll let it. The action is nice and low as well, without any buzz, allowing for flawless rythym playing for fast riffs. Aria dosn't package as many custom options with this model as its others the main colors only being black and white. Other than that I'm quite satisfied The Nextar is boasts a solid Alder body, with Maple neck, and Rosewood fingerboard. It comes with no-name tuners and pickups which work great as is. This guitar for its price is one of the best values out there. For those of you weary about foriegn guitar makers, go out and try and Nextar, or even an Aria period, I'm sure you'll like what you hear. This guitar will play anything you want it to, it just wants to be heard. 4 Derek McLaughlin Taylor Baby Taylor Acoustic Guitars Purchased at Guitar Center for $249 for my son. 4 Jimmy Ibanez PF20-NS Acoustic Guitars I was looking for a cheap acoustic guitar I could take with me for a long trip to S. America. Found this in a Pawn Shop in Houston, TX. Paid $150 plus tax For the price... It's got a really nice clear/crispy tone to it. Sounds better than others I've found at 4 or 5 times the price. Intonation is very good. Action is good. Looks really nice, too. Since I didn't pay too much for it, I didn't have to worry so much about it being destroyed by airline luggage apes. I can even let the kids play around with it without having to worry about them busting up a $2000 acoustic instrument. This would be an ideal beginner's guitar. Seems that if I try to get any hard volume out of it, the 1st & second strings (E & B) seem to die-off quickly, i.e. little sustain on the high strings. I don't like the fact that I can't find out anything about this guitar from Ibanez by web or by phone. You always get pushed to somebody else who doesn't know any more than the last guy. There's no reference to this model number in the "blue-books" either Spruce top. Mahagony back & sides. made in Korea in 92(?). It sounds like a solid-top, but I can't verify this with Ibanez. Good tone. Good feel. Looks good. Low price. Great value for the price. Great beginner's guitar. 3 Tom S. |
