Like many of you, I am still in shock about yesterday’s terrorist attacks. I know a lot of you may not know who I am, but I am one of the staff writers, here at MusicGearReview.com. I am not a regular contributor to the site, but I am very good friends with the webmaster Chris. And, I thought that I would like to let everyone, who visits this site, know that they can help. But first, I would like to let you know how I found out about yesterday’s tragedies.
Early yesterday morning, I was at work. I was not real happy to be there, mainly because I had overslept and just got to work on time. About an hour into work, I had some free time, so I decided to email Chris about VH-1’s special on the Top 40 Hair Bands. I basically wanted to see if Chris had caught the special and what his thoughts were. After a few emails back and forth, Chris sent me an email, stating that two planes had crashed into the World Trade Center. He had also sent a link to cnn.com. I attempted to goto the link, but I guess with all of the heavy traffic, the site was bogged down. So, I turned my radio to an AM radio station, figuring that they would have live coverage. Right after, I found the station, I went to two of my co-workers who to tell them, but they had already found out via phone calls. A couple of my co-workers had portable TV’s with them and tuned them into the news.
Work almost stopped. But since I work as a support technician, phone calls kept coming in. So, with one ear tuned to the radio, the other ear listening to the caller and my eyes glued to the TV, I watched in shock as the events unfolded before me. Chris and I kept sending emails to each other for a little bit, but after awhile we stopped, I don’t know if Chris’ work had sent him home or not, or if he was just watching TV.
I then called my wife and I could hear in the background that she had already tuned into the news and new of the horrific happenings of the day. I then called my mother. She had not heard of anything and I was the first one to tell her. She then reminded me, that my cousin, who had just gotten married on Saturday, was leaving for his honeymoon. We quickly found out that his plane, which took off from Cleveland, landed safely in Cincinnati, but he and his new wife were stuck there. Later in the day, we heard that the airline was going to bus people back to Cleveland so that they could get to their vehicles and head home.
After finding out my cousin was okay, my attention then turned to my sister. My sister lives in North Carolina with her husband, 15 month old daughter and 3 week old son. My sister’s husband is originally from New York and his brother is a New York City Fireman. After hearing and seeing both towers collapse, I started praying that he was okay. It took awhile, my sister and her family had gone on a shopping trip, and neither my mom nor myself could reach her, but we found out that he was off of work, but that he was called to help in the rescue and recovery. Also, my brother-in-law’s sister’s boyfriend is a New York City Policeman, but, he too, was off of work, but was quickly called in for help in the rescue work.
It is still hard to believe what happened yesterday, but we all are affected by it. If you can, please do what you can to help, either by donating blood, or by giving a monetary donation. Visit these websites to see how you can help
