NAMM Update: Fender Bass 50th Anniversary Party
(Fender | Posted 2001-07-20)

Well, we just got back to the room and it's 3am. After seeing some great blues bands (check out TeBeaux's Tavern 114 4th Street South) and club hopping in Nashville it's time to tell you about the great Fender 50th Anniversary party we went to tonight for the Precision Bass and Bassman Amplifier.
The party was hosted at the Javelina Studio in Nashville, a site where many recordings have been made that you might be familiar with. Popular artists such as Garth Brooks and even Chet Atkins have recorded in this studio.
Delivering the bulk of the speech was the editor for Bass Player Magazine. Finally, Bill Schultz, Chairman and CEO of Fender Musical Instruments stepped up to the mic with a rousing speech.
Highlighting the night were musical sets with only bass players - no drums, guitars, etc. At one point there were 6 guys playing bass on stage going through a set loaded with popular tunes. It was unbelievable to see what these gifted artists were able to do with a bass guitar. Some of these Fender artists were playing lead high up on the neck, others were playing rhythm chords and others were phrasing a strong bass line underneath it all. It was pretty amazing.
We're going to hit the sack now, but I wanted to give you all an update until we get back to the room tomorrow night with our first day at NAMM update with some cool products you can look forward to!
Good night! And sweet gear dreams...
Chris & Mike
