SEVENDUST ADJUSTS TO CHANGE OF 'SEASONS' ON NEW ALBUM

Although Sevendust is famous for its relentless live show, as well as infamous for its members' offstage behavior, the hard working and harder living rock band has noticed a few changes around the camp recently. "There's a bit of clarity in this band now," said bassist Vince Hornsby, "which is a good thing. People are trying to keep a level head on their extracurricular activities. It's kind of a change, so that's where Seasons flows from."

For Sevendust's five members, Seasons, the band's fourth album, is simply a reflection of their current lives. Some of them are married. Some even have kids. So when Hornsby describes the record as "more melodic," then waxes enthusiastic about the band's upcoming acoustic dates, it's hard not to think about khaki pants, loafers and Norman Rockwellian domesticity. "Enemy," the album's brutal first single, quickly erases that image.

"Seasons is a little bit different, but it's not that much of a change," said Hornsby. "It's just showing what the band can do. We enjoy grinding into the ground—that's the kind of band we are, anyway—but we've (also) done "Angel's Son" and (other) acoustic stuff in the past. Butch Walker (producer) had great ideas for vocal melodies and chords, so we're just trying different stuff."

Judging from the anthemic "Enemy," which begins with a fuzzed-out, Peavey-fueled bassline, the band's experiment—with both songwriting and bass amplifiers—was a huge success. Hornsby recently added some new gear to his Peavey rig, one that already included four 810TVX™ enclosures, MAX® preamps and DPC® 1400X digital power amps (each pumping 1400 Watts bridged from a 16 lb., single-rack-space unit).

"I've got everything sounding awesome," he said. "I got four Pro 210™ boxes that I'm using for subs, and they've made a massive difference. It's like you're in a bass trap all the way across the stage. I love it! To be honest, ever since I got with Peavey, it's been awesome. The range of different stuff I can do with (my gear) is great."

Hornsby will have ample opportunities to test his Peavey amplifiers in October when Sevendust hits U.S. arenas and amphitheaters with Staind. "They've talked about bringing us out ever since they blew up," he added, "and we said, 'why not?' We're pretty good friends." The band will also headline its own U.S. and European tours well into 2004.
