Christmas Gifts for Drummers - Drummer Gifts

Searching for drummer gifts? Husbands, wives and friends of guitar players think they have it tough. They've got nothing on you. You're the poor unfortunate soul who has to choose a gift for your favorite drummer. Don't despair, MGR is here to help. Below are some ideas for gifts for drummers that will make your holiday shopping, we hope, a little easier.

Drum Sticks

You can't go wrong here. Every percussionist who likes to pound on his skins, impress folks with rim shots, and stick acrobatics will appreciate a fresh set of twigs to pound with. Be careful though. There are many types, varieties and brands out there to choose from. If you are fortunate enough to be around your gift recipient enough, you can probably get a feel for the type of sticks he or she uses. However, a decent set from Vic Firth or any of the major drum gear manufacturers will do. Although your favorite drummer may appreciate a specific model, some of the choices you may see are:
2B -- Tear-drop tip. For heavy rock, band, and practice.
5A -- Tear-drop tip for rich cymbal sounds. Light and fast for jazz, orchestral, and pit work.
5B -- Tear-drop tip. Ideal for rock, band, and practice.
Rock -- Oval tip for a full sound. Great for rock and band.

Drum Tees

It may not sound like much, but any drummer worth his weight in maple would appreciate a logo drum tee. Popular brands out there are Zildjian, Slingerland, Tama, Pearl, Paiste, DW to mention a few. If you know what your bam-bam enjoys, you should have no problem picking out the right brand, but hey, they fact that you thought of his or her favorite pasttime would make any brand of tee enjoyable.

Drummers Gloves

They soak up sweat and they smell like hell some times, but drummers gloves are a commodity unto their own. Any decent pair will do in most cases, as the drummer has a tendency to cut and mold them to taste and they usually don't get the most comfy until they've been on their paws for a while. Companies like Zildjian make drummers gloves in the $20 range and this would make a nice gift for anyone I know who pounds the skins.

Bongos

Anyone who plays drums and is creative and likes to experiment would appreciate a set of bongos. Just make sure they don't already have a set! Bongos can be found for around $50 for a decent set and are a lot of fun for drummers, especially as an accent for acoustic jams and other non-traditional songs.

Whatever you choose as a gift for your drummer, rest assured that he or she will appreciate the fact that you chose to give a gift related to something they are passionate about. It speaks volumes when you recognize someones special talents and ability and choose to give them a gift reflective of that.

Best of luck in your holiday shopping this season. Hopefully we've given you a few small ideas for getting a drummer gift.
