3 DOORS DOWN GUITARIST USES PEAVEY ON NEW RECORDPeaveyPosted 2003-11-11 Exactly one week shy of its one-year anniversary on the Billboard 200, 3 Doors Down's Away from the Sun re-entered the Top 10 on the strength of the band's current hit, "Here Without You." Now, just one week later, 3 Doors Down is treating fans to a six-song live EP, Another 700 Miles, culled from performances on its successful 2003 tour.
Another 700 Miles brings the 3 Doors Down live experience to fans who only know the band from crossover radio hits such as "Kryptonite," "Duck and Run" and the smash "Here Without You." The EP offers live versions of these three hits, plus "When I'm Gone," the new track "It's Not Me" and a cover of the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic "That Smell." Guitarist Matt Roberts used Peavey 5150 and Triple XXX guitar amplifiers throughout 3 Doors Down's hectic touring schedule and on this new release.
"I used so many combinations of amplifiers (in the past)," said Roberts, "but I wasn't getting any consistency with my tone. I tried the Peavey gear and it seemed like night after night the tones were=20 consistent. I was using the 5150 (when we started the band), and I'm back with the 5150 today. It's just a great, solid amp with a lot of raw power=97a great heavy sound. For my clean tones, I'm using the Triple XXX."
Although 3 Doors Down formed back in 1996, the band didn't garner attention outside its local music scene until 1999, when a nearby rock radio station spun "Kryptonite" during=20 its Sunday night local music show. The station's phones started ringing immediately with requests=97first from fans wanting to hear the song, then from record companies wanting to sign the band to a record deal. =20 Six million albums later, the band's ubiquitous major label debut, The Better Life, had spawned four hit singles, including the aforementioned rock anthem of 2000, and brought 3 Doors Down around the world several times over. Now, the band is doing it all again with Away from the Sun.
Another 700 Miles will be available November 11 via Republic/Universal Records.=20 =20 Peavey Electronics Corporation is one of the largest manufacturers of musical instruments and professional sound equipment in the world.
