 MAPEX INTRODUCES BENCHMARK COPPER DRUM KITSMapexPosted 2003-12-20 Leading drum industry manufacturer Mapex Drums is offering Benchmark Copper drum sets for a limited time, the company announced today. The exclusive kits are the second in a line of Limited Edition lacquered-finish drumsets, following the popular Carmel Fade kits. The Carmel Fade drumsets sold out 23 days after their release earlier this year. Available in Pro-M and M-Series editions, the new Benchmark Copper drums are expected to sell quickly.
“I’m keeping a set for myself,” stated Mapex USA’s Vice President and General Manager Chuck Turk. “These kits are simply stunning. I think they’re going to be collector’s items.”
Benchmark Copper drum sets will be available from Mapex in two configurations, both featuring a 22” x 18” bass drum and an optional 8” x 7” rack tom. Standard configuration will include short-shell toms measuring 10” x 7” and 12” x 8” and a 14” x 14” floor tom. The alternate arrangement includes larger toms measuring 12” x 8” and 13” x 9”, as well as a 16” x 16” floor tom.
Mapex’s hugely popular Pro-M line, made from 7.1mm alternating 7-ply maple and basswood shells, offers players rich tone and outstanding resonance. M-Series kits include 8.1mm alternating 8-ply maple and basswood shells to deliver deep tones with rich resonance. These kits also include Mapex’s unique non-penetrating I.T.S. (Isolated Tom System), 2.3mm Rigid Chrome steel hoops and double-braced hardware. All Mapex Drums are equipped with Remo® drumheads.
“Mapex can produce these exotic finishes in small quantities because we’re one of the only drum makers in the world that owns its own factory,” explained Turk, who also noted that the company’s manufacturing plant was recently awarded the prestigious ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management Certification. “One benefit from having that kind of manufacturing advantage is the freedom to experiment with different finishes. That’s how the finish for the Benchmark Copper kit happened. The finish is so lusciously unique that we simply had to do a small run.”
