SWR® GETS “DOWN & DIRTY”! New Speaker Cabinets Return To Old School Low Fidelity

SWR® will debut two all new down-and-dirty Limited Edition speaker cabinets at this winter’s NAMM show, the SWR Black & Chrome 12-Stack 4x12 and the SWR Black & Chrome 12-Pack 2x12. Designed for straight-ahead bassists, these new cabinets offer seriously heavy tones and a look that screams “hard rock” from on stage!

These Limited Edition speaker cabinets are based on custom designs requested by Robbie Merrill of the band Godsmack, who used 8 of the 12-Stack 4x12 cabinets, along with scores of SWR 750x and Power 750 amplifiers, on their most recent tour. With an unprecedented amount of consumer response asking for speaker cabinets like Merrill’s, SWR has set out to make a special limited run of cabinets that offer the same looks and ultra-loud, “low fidelity” tones that will easily cut through the mix of heavy guitars.

Says Bryan Beller, Marketing Manager for SWR, “Robbie Merrill is an incredible hard rock bassist, and a huge part of his old school sound is in his speaker cabinets. We wanted these new cabinets to sound dirty and to bring back that vibe—a vibe from when bass players had mid-range to spare and audiences had hearing loss!”

The new 12-Stack 4x12 and 12-Pack 2x12 speaker cabinets have been designed for players who value great SWR products, but who also want an alternative to the renowned “hi-fi” SWR sound. The secret to the low fidelity sound of these cabinets is the combination of a new cabinet footprint and the 4 custom SWR 12” speakers in the 12-Stack 4x12 (2 custom SWR 12” speakers on the 12-Pack 2x12), along with the lack of a tweeter usually found in SWR cabinets.

Both the 12-Stack 4x12 and the 12-Pack 2x12 come equipped with Speakon and 1/4” input/output jacks, removable caster wheels and a bottom slot port. Both are also covered in Black vinyl, with heavy-duty stack-lock corners and road-worthy chrome grill.

The 12-Stack 4x12 has a power rating of 800 Watts RMS, while the 12-Pack 2x12 has a power rating of 400 Watts RMS. The impedance of both speaker cabinets is 8 ohms. US MSRP is $999.99 for 12-Stack 4x12, and $714.27 for the 12-Pack 2x12.
