"Song Of The Year" Announces 2004 Amateur Songwriting Contest
(Press Release | Posted 2004-01-01)

Song of the Year (www.songoftheyear.com) is excited to announce their 2004 amateur songwriting contest supporting VH-1’s Save the Music Foundation. Song of the Year has a prestigious panel of judges including Grammy award winners, Emmy nominees, as well as representatives from Rolling Stone, BMG publishing, and ABC to name a few. The grand prize winner will receive $5,000 in cash as well as some great prizes from sponsors such as D’addario, Broadjam, and Sony Pictures Digital Software.
The four primary objectives of the song contest are:
1- To encourage the art and discipline of songwriting
2- To network talented songwriters with industry leaders
3- To offer guidance to songwriters through critiques and reviews
4- To provide assistance to VH-1’s Save the Music Foundation
The contest will have 600 winners over the course of the year. The contest is designed in such a way to allow 50 winners and finalists every month to have their music heard by labels, publishers, and other influential companies in the music industry who are looking for new talent. Networking “up and coming” talent with the right people is the key to the contest states spokesperson Jennifer Harrison. She believes that “a contest’s focus shouldn’t be on the prizes and the elite judge panel but on the songwriter. There are so many great songwriters out there but unfortunately they seldom ever get their material to the individuals who can do something productive with their songs. An essential part of the song contest is that we expect to have some great success stories when the contest is over”. Song of the Year is passionate about assisting the careers of talent songwriters and believes that the success of the contest will ultimately be determined by the careers started from the 600 winners and finalists selected throughout the year.
