Yamaha Lotus Series Acoustics Combine Tradition And Innovation(Yamaha | Posted 2004-02-07) ANAHEIM, CA—Builders of top quality guitars have always strived to achieve better ýtone, stronger construction and timeless beauty in each instrument they create. In that ýsame tradition, Yamaha Guitars establishes a new standard for sumptuous quality and ýtone in acoustic instruments with the introduction of the Lotus Series. Hand-built to ýexacting standards at Yamaha’s facility in Japan, each model of the Lotus Series exudes ýworld-class craftsmanship, tradition and innovation. The result is understated beauty and ýuniquely rich, distinctive acoustic sound.
ý
The Lotus Series will be available throughout 2004, and features 15 models in ýfour categories from entry to luxury level. Simple and elegant styling features include ýpremium Englemann Spruce tops, Rosewood back and side body construction, and the ýfinest inlays, tuners and bindings. Each model also features Yamaha’s original body style, ýand full 651 mm scale.ý
ý“The Lotus Series sets a new benchmark for acoustic guitars,” states Joseph ýBrasler, marketing manager, Yamaha Guitars. “While old-world materials such as high ýgrade Englemann Spruce, beautiful solid Rosewoods and Nitrocellulose lacquers are used ýthroughout the Lotus series, our luthiers are constantly looking for new ways to increase ýresponsiveness, lighten and strengthen structures and deliver a sweeter, more dynamic ýsound.”
ý
Construction innovations include Yamaha’s exclusive Non-Scalloped 90° ý
X-Bracing, which increases resonance and provides a more focused midrange, and the ýunique SQ Frame Side-Bracing, which enhances low and low-mid response.ý
ý“On traditional guitars, string vibration mostly affects the top of the instrument, ýand the rest of the acoustic structure serves to amplify that resonance,” adds Brasler. “SQ ýFrame Side-Bracing expands string energy out to include the back and sides of the body, ýmaking the lows and low-mids richer, fuller and more alive.”ý
While there are a number of ways to approach neck block design, Yamaha’s ýproprietary NC Neck Block offers superior coupling of the neck and body while ýsimultaneously increasing sustain, power and projection.
ý
Luthiers have constantly experimented with the lamination of premium ýtonewoods to find the perfect balance between warmth and sound definition. The necks of ýLotus Series combine traditional Mahogany with exotic Padauk for a clear, natural, round ýtone and superior neck rigidity.ý
