ANAHEIM, CA—Targeting the rapid growth of the computer music production market and equally rapid advances in connectivity technology, Yamaha Corporation of America, Digital Musical Instruments, announces the Winter NAMM introduction of the i88X. The i88X is an mLAN-based Audio and MIDI interface which features two mic and six line inputs that deliver pristine audio signal to the unit’s precision 24-bit96kHz A/D converters. Built-in ADAT Light Pipe compatibility and SPDIF I/O allows for 18 simultaneous inputs and outputs. The i88X can be used as a stand-alone 18-channel computer I/O, or as an expansion device in an mLAN network. Because the i88X is mLAN compatible, users get the added benefits of integration with over 40 mLAN licensee company products.

The first two input channels feature extremely high performance head amplifiers with phantom power and insert points. These head amps were designed by the same engineers who developed Yamaha’s acclaimed DM2000 and 02R96 digital mixing consoles, and are the result of years of research and input from world-class engineers and producers. Each head amp delivers transparent sound performance that rivals—and in many cases exceeds—that of the most expensive component microphone preamps. “When it comes to the signal chain, there is no more important component than your mic preamps,” states Mike Martin, marketing manager, Digital Musical Instruments. “The combination of mLAN compatibility and superb preamps will allow users to seamlessly expand their computer-based systems with a level of audio quality that has ýnever been offered in this price range.” For more information on the i88X mLAN I/O, visit Yamaha at Winter NAMM 2004 in the Marquis Ballroom at the Anaheim Marriott Hotel; write Yamaha Corporation ýof America, Pro Audio & Combo Division, Digital Musical Instruments, P.O.
