MELVILLE, NY, January 23, 2004 — Marshall Amplification company founder Jim Marshall held a book signing to officially introduce his new authorized biography, Jim Marshall: The Father of Loud, by Rich Maloof (published by Backbeat Books). The event was held on Saturday, January 17, 2004 at Guitar Center’s Hollywood store, home of the famous Hollywood RockWalk® where Mr. Marshall was an inaugural inductee in 1985. On hand to support Jim and autograph copies of the book were some of the industry’s leading guitar heroes and longtime Marshall artists including: Slash (who wrote the forward of the book); Kerry King (Slayer); Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains); and John 5 (Marilyn Manson). In addition, a giveaway was held for an ultra-rare, purple Marshall 1959SLPX head with matching 1960TV cabinet.

About Jim Marshall: The Father of Loud — When music store owner and drum teacher Jim Marshall set to work designing “the world’s first rock ‘n’ roll amp” to realize the musical dream of a few local guitarists, he probably didn’t know he was creating a tradition that has laid the very foundations of rock music. But after playing the sixth prototype of ‘Number 1,’ which would later become the JTM45, a young Pete Townshend said, “That’s it! That’s going to be the Marshall sound from now on.” And so it was: since the 1960s, Marshall amps have been the first choice of the greatest guitarists in rock history. Now, Mr. Marshall’s story is told in a new authorized biography, Jim Marshall: The Father of Loud, by Rich Maloof (published by Backbeat Books), which features a forward written by guitar hero (and personal friend of Jim) Slash. Since the early 1960s, Marshall Amplifiers have been the choice of countless musicians and can be seen on stages around the world. The Marshall biography pays homage to the company’s rich heritage and contributions to the world of rock and encourages the readers to pursue their own musical dreams.
