Nine-year-old Drummer Looking Forward to Bright Future with AKG Microphones(AKG | Posted 2004-02-01) He might look like your typical 9-year-old boy, but this child prodigy is already drumming his way to success in the music industry. Young Isaiah Williams was performing at Summer NAMM in Nashville when he was “discovered” by Product Manager, Walter Rührig with AKG Vienna. Rührig, also a percussionist, was so impressed by the young boy’s raw talent and big sound that he agreed to endorse Isaiah.
Isaiah’s incredible talent comes as no surprise to his family. As an infant Isaiah Williams demonstrated an unusual awareness to musical rhythms and by age one he was already drumming on every surface he could find. He made his first public appearance at age two performing for his church. Today, while most 9-year-olds come home from school and play with their friends, young Isaiah is practicing the drums. “I play after school and I play every day,” says Isaiah. “He a perfectionist,” observes his father Drue Williams. “When he tries something that’s difficult for him he’s very persistent. He’ll keep trying, keep trying until he gets it.”
Isaiah found the perfect opportunity to use his new microphones when he recorded his first CD with his band “The Isaiah Williams Project”. He used AKG’s C 420 headset “micromic”, the D 112 kick drum mic, C 419’s on the tom toms, C 418’s on the snare and hi-hat and two C 414 B/ULS as overhead microphones. Despite Isaiah’s small size, the AKG mics gave him a big sound. “I’m extremely impressed the mics make it easy for him to be heard, it makes him sound like a heavy hitter,” says Drue Williams.
Isaiah’s first CD features James Dudley on keyboards and Drue Williams on Bass, plus special guest appearances by members of “The Flecktones” Victor Wooten, Roy “The Futureman” Wooten and saxophonist Jeff Coffin. Starting in January 2004, Isaiah will experience life on the road as he begins touring to promote his new CD. The tour kicks off in California in January, 2004. Isaiah will also make a guest appearance in a documentary on great drummers of the past, present and future.
“Isaiah’s young age and unique style really make him stand out as a drummer. His AKG microphones give him a great sound and help showcase his raw talent. We look forward to watching Isaiah mature as a musician and look forward to hearing how his AKG microphones perform on his up-coming tour,” says Mike Torlone Market Development Manager, Studio at AKG Acoustics U.S.
