SHAQUILLE O'NEAL VISITS PVDJ AT WINTER NAMM TO DEMO THE NEW DAI

L.A. Lakers basketball star and hip-hop artist Shaquille O'Neal dropped into the PVDJ exhibit at the recent Winter NAMM trade show in Anaheim to check out the much buzzed-about DAI Digital Audio Interface. After hearing about the DAI through a DJ friend, Shaq made a special Sunday visit to see it for himself—in fact, he showed up as soon as the convention hall opened.

"The PVDJ Digital Audio Interface was absolutely incredible," commented Shaq. "I've always been a DJ, but now with PVDJ, I'm a real DJ."

PVDJ Product Manager Adam Lawson demonstrated the real-time remixing capabilities of the DAI to Shaq, who, aside from being a legend on the court, has five album credits to his name. Shaq has worked with heavyweights Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z and Notorious B.I.G, among others, in his rap career, and released his most recent disc, Shaquille O'Neal Presents His Superfriends, Vol. 1, in 2001.

The PVDJ DAI is the first truly stable hardware and software package to allow DJs to remix .MP3, .WAV and .CDA audio files in real time. By using exclusive, far-advanced technology, the DAI also creates a truly stable digital remixing environment, a landmark achievement in digital audio technology. The DAI includes all the controls needed for real-time remixing, including jog wheels on either side of the controller that can be used to create scratching-type effects, and exclusive "Grabbing" technology, which allows one-button-push looping.

The DAI also includes an Auto Pilot feature with fully automated mixing and tempo matching to eliminate dead air between songs. Auto Pilot detects the end of the currently playing track and mixes in the next song automatically, aligning the beats and matching the tempos. Auto Pilot only kicks in during the last 15 seconds of a track and can be left on as a safeguard without interfering with the unit's other controls.

The DAI controller works in tandem with its companion PVDJ software package, which is built around a 56-bit audio engine. The software requires no additional drivers—it runs using existing Windows or Mac OSX drivers. The DAI is a true "plug & play" interface; if either the USB or power cord is unplugged, the DAI will pick up exactly where it left off once the cord is replaced, without rebooting.

The PVDJ Digital Audio Interface will be available in Q2 2004 from Authorized PVDJ Dealers.
