Just curious about how I could go about having one amp run my highs and one run my lows the same way Billy Sheehan does. I don't have the cash to go about getting the dual output system or tearing my bass apart to do it, but I do have two amp heads, two decent sized cabinets and the will to make it work (perhaps with an effect box or two?)

On somewhat the same idea level, I'm equally curious about running a stereo signal in a different way. One effected and one clean. I'd particularly like to be able to mix distorted and clean signals, but any advice is helpful.

Consider me an idiot on the subject. The lives of my very amplifiers may hang in the balance...or so I'm told.

Looking at your equipment as listed in your sig, it looks like running two lines is the easiest setup for you. I'd start with some kind of splitter box or an A?B box that allows you to run each amp separately or combined. This way, you don't need a stereo bass or a crossover, the crossover being what you really need to truly biamp. I'd run the Bassman 100 with the SWR 4x10 cab and the Bassman 50 with the Markbass 2x10. EQ the 100/SWR for more bottom end and the 50/Markbass for more top. If you want to run effects, all you need to do is run them between the line out of the A/B box to the amp you want to have effects. You could even run effects that sound better on high notes through the high setup and those better for low notes through the low setup. Using the feature that allows you to run both heads at once, you could also have straight signal on one amp and effects on the other.

Back in the '70s I ran an Acoustic 360 for lows with an Altec-Lansing midrange horn for highs. The horn was powered by a Kustom 200 head with a capacitor that cut lows from getting to the horn. It wasn't ideal, but it worked.
