So everyone has heard of this "Holy Grail" of overdrive pedals. Particularly the vintage TS808. Guys will pay hundreds of dollars for these on eBay. I don't argue that they are a sweet overdrive pedal and hard to replicate. A fellow musician friend of mine saw that I was running my 808 modded TS9 through 9 volt power. He told me I needed to by a bunch of 9 volt batteries and run them down to half power and only gig with that. He said that they are much creamier when running on less power. Hmm... Any of you have any input? Is he simply crazy or am I a skeptic?

Wow, I would really have to bring my chops to the next level to truly appreciate that level of tone worship, haha, but technically speaking, I don't know how much sense that makes - especially when there are so many other factors that could impart fluctuations in the tone - cabling, amplification, etc. I would have to think 9v juice would rank really low. But just my two cents.

Power supply should have an effect on sound, but I can't tell you why other than to say that when the 9V in my bass onboard preamp starts to die, I pick up distortion. Maybe that's what he means -- the distortion of the reduced power supply is somehow smoother than at full power.

Could be. It seems to be a rather dangerous practice to use this in a gigging situation... to start the show off with a dead battery. I am with you Chris, I need to get a lot better before I start to worry about that. smile
