I've had my eye on this PRS Korina for some time. Does anyone know anyone that has one? I just saw on their website that it has been discontinued. I wonder if this has to do with all the federal regulations on endangered wood species or if this was planned. I was -> <- this close to pulling the trigger.. I bet this thing is going to be worth a mint now...

I'm not sure if they were offering two different models but I know they were offering a Korina with a Brazilian Rosewood neck and only making about 500 of them. Korina itself does not have an embargo on it. It is an African Mahogany. However, Brazilian Rosewood does have an embargo on it and it could be a problem there. You are still able to use Brazilian Rosewood if you already have a stash in the States. If you have to import it, it is illegal. Martin offers only one guitar with Brazilian Rosewood and it is the D100, a 110,000 dollar gaudy mess. They probably just have those guitars already made. Taylor has a small stash left for there presentation series but have the "limited availability" disclaimer. There are few for sale on line Chris... Trigger time... Before they do cost a mint smile

Wow Matt, thanks for the insight. Where'd you get your info? It's such a tough decision to pull the trigger.

Its from a rival forum smile http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/my-other-guitars/10106-prs-mccarty-korina.html

I have a Brazilian Rosewood acoustic so I had to do my research on embargo status.

And yes pulling the trigger is tough. It is not a cheap guitar. What kind of music do you play? This being a Mahogany type body, it will have good sustain. You certainly arent a shredder right? It won't be good for that... I love PRS guitars they just seem to be pretty hit and miss lately.
