I have one made out of the nylon webbing type stuff and it is rubbing my neck raw. What does everyone else use and is it easier on your neck?

I use a wide leather guitar strap with my bass and I find that this helps the most to distribute the weight. As a material leather is less irritating, too.
Hope this helps!

Especially if it's padded. I have an old padded Peavey strap from I don't know when. My uncle handed it down to me when he gave me my first bass.
In a pinch, belts can also work when modified a little bit haha.

That padded Peavey strap sounds like what I need. Although just the leather would probably be easier on me than the nylon though. I've thrown the thing away anyway and I've been searching the shops for something that I like but everything is to "new". I guess I'm going to have to start looking around the second hand shops for something that's been broken in a bit.

Sounds good Chris. I don't mind second hand, as a matter of fact I prefer it in some things. I like things to have a good "feel" and vintage things already have that feel.

Along with ebay, you might try Craig's List. I have found a lot of good second hand music effects. I also found a classical guitar on ebay that I really liked.

Rogers, Ohio has one of the largest and best flea markets I've ever seen, bar none. If you can't find it there, it probably doesn't exist.

We have two large flea markets within an hour drive from my home. I have found just about anything imaginable there, including a guitar, guitar strap and an amplifier. Of course, I always manage to find a guitar pick to add to my collection.

It's funny you mentioned used straps because that's what I own too. The older the leather the better it feels. If I borrow a friend's guitar it's just not the same because it doesn't have my strap on it.

I use the standard guitar strap for electric guitars whether I'm using an acoustic or not. They're really strong you know.

For quality Straps in a variety of styles, Levy's is the go to manufacturer. They have everything from glitzy to basic black utilitarian. I've been using a 3 1/2" wide black Levy's strap for six years with no visible signs of wear, and I have a cool retro-looking strap with a sliding pad that's perfect for my Hofner Icon bass. Figure on spending anywhere from $40-$60 for leather.
