Taylor has just introduced their 8 string baritone. It is tuned like a regular baritone, BEADGB and they added an octave A and D. It is an interesting idea, kind of like a partial twelve string. Taylor says it doesn't sound much like a twelve string. I would think it might brighten the baritone up a little too much for some tastes. Has anyone by chance played one yet? I am going to try to get down and play one soon.

I've always been intrigued by baritone guitars and six-string basses tunes like the old Fender Bass VI, which The Beatles, JAck Bruce and John Paul Jones used and which I think was used on quite a few Phil Spector records in the '60s and still shows up on some Tex-Mex rock stuff. Hard to find one, though. I'd like to hear this Taylor model because I also like 12-strings. Looks like it should have a sound all its own, though.

I'm sure it does. I mentioned in my review that you will have to get creative when buying strings. Taylor recommends elixir strings and I'm sure that they don't make an eight string baritone set. You will have to buy singles for the octave strings.

Back in 1967, before light gauge guitar strings came along, Our guitarist used to use ball end banjo strings for a B & E so he could bend them. Probably might be able to so the same today, although the variety of strings i incredible now.

Yeah, a lot of places sell singles now. The banjo string is a good idea. I never thought about that.

After seeing Victor Wooten play slide electric bass with Robert Randolph live, it gets you thinking about a whole different side of possibilities, right? The only baritone strings I know of are made by Gibson and Ernie Ball, and I know the Ernie Ball's are overly bright. At least to my taste.

Victor Wooten is a hero. I'm hoping to catch him at his bar here in Nashville one of these days.

D'Addario and Elixir both have baritone acoustic strings, but I don't know if there are any cheaper sets.
