Gretsch has rolled out a new, limited edition Eddie Cochran guitar ( http://www.gretschguitars.com/cochran). If you're older than 50, think Brian Setzer is great or are into retro rock, this news probably means something. Cochran's "Twenty Flight Rock" was the song that Paul McCartney played for John Lennon so Paul could join the Quarrymen, and it's undeniable that Eddie, who died in 1960 at the height of his popularity, paved the way for George Harrison, Pete Townsend and so many of the great players of the early rock era. Now, I'll mention the price. $12,000. No -- I didn't put one too many zeros in this price. So, do I buy this guitar or save an additional $1,000 and get a new Kia? Although Gretsch has gone to great lengths to faithfully reproduce this guitar, right down to including a replica of Eddie's guitar strap with purchase, I can't help but think this one is aimed at collectors and millionaire pros who can afford to lay out this kind of cash. And please don't tell me that street price will be "only $9,600." In Cochran's day, $9,600 bought you 10 VW Beetles.

Yes, but I can't run over hippie peace freaks in a guitar.

I dunno. There are some pretty steep hills in San Francisco. AT that price, you might as well put wheels on it. Could be a nice touch of irony in the cause of death line...

They make a wheel for upright bass, so why not guitars? Whammy bar as shifter!

Strap on a 3 horsepower engine and it's the new smart car. And who needs a seat belt when you can just tuck and roll?
Let's make 'em!
