I think that would probably be a pretty good buy. There a lot of imitation strat guitars on the market and some of them are pretty good. I think as long as it plays in tune and the frets aren't flat it would be a good buy. The beauty of electric guitars is that you can always upgrade pickups at a later time. Keep your eye on eBay for some pickups that someone is changing out and you may wind up with quite a good guitar for very inexpensive price.

There are quite a few decent $100 Strat or Les Paul copies out there. Common problems would be sharp fret edges or action that can't be lowered, which is probably an indication that the neck is improperly adjusted. If possible, plays before buying. I'll also add that Fender makes a Squier Strat that sells for around $125 without case and is very well made. I have one. The extra $25 might be a good investment in this case.
