Yes bassist Chris Squire turns 62 today. Chris probably did more for sales of Rickenbacker basses than anyone living, including Paul McCartney. I remember hearing "The Yes Album" in 1971 and thinking, "How does he get that sound?" Well, the Rick was a huge part, of course, coupled with Rotosound Swing Bass strings and a Herco nylon pick. I ordered and Rick right away and spent many, many hours listening to and learning Chris' bass lines. They're still a good training ground for nay bassist looking for non-traditional, melodic, syncopated lines that still fit the song perfectly.

Happy Birthday Chris Squire! Thank you for proving that you can rock just as hard with a pick as with your fingers.*

*: Oh, and thanks to Steve Swallow for that one, too.
