I know that when I roll into a venue and they've got a Shure Beta 52A (or Yamaha SubKick) for my kick, a good set of MD 421's for my toms, an SM7B for my snare, and some rockin' large diaphragm condensers as overheads - I AM HAPPY!

I know realistically this rarely happens but:

What is your ideal mic set up for your instrument (drums, guitars, bass, ect...) when you show up for a gig or in the studio? This is a great opportunity for us to all teach, learn, and expand our knowledge as musicians AND engineers.

For my guitars:
Gig: Just throw a 57 or a 421 up on the cab. Can't really go wrong there.
Studio: Combo of the 57 up close and the Bock 195 about a foot or so off has always given me pretty good results.

Very cool, Trevin. I've never used the 195 on a guitar amp - we did use it on all of the vocals for upcoming ep - you'll hear it soon!
