I'm off to see the Subdudes at a show in Pittsburgh tonight. Great band. If you've never heard or seen them, check out Steve Amedee, the "drummer." He uses only a tambourine on most gigs, but he makes it sound like a kick & a snare. Occasionally he might add a bass drum, but most shows are tambourine, maybe a hand drum and one small crash cymbal.

Are they a local band? I will definitely have to check them out - Where are you seeing them? I am always amazed with percussionists that can fill the rhythmic needs of a band with simple instruments such as the tambo!

I can't believe it has been 3 years since I've been back to Pittsburgh - a trip is due!

They're out of New Orleans and Colorado. Bluesy, New Orleans, Folk, Country, Rock. Great vocals and the lead guitarist/singer, Tommy Malone, is excellent. They have a big underground fan base but have never had a commercial hit to my knowledge. A good CD for their typical sound is "Street Symphony." The latest, "Flower Petals," is a typical but still good.

The band sounded good tonight although the mix was awful. It was a small club with no seats and about half the crowd apparently wasn't there for the Dudes and talked most of the night.
