slimpickings newbie Registered: 05/15/09 Posts: 30	I've always been interested in learning to play the classic guitar. My father played some but passed away before he could teach me. I really can't afford lessons so I'm hoping there is a program that would be helpful. I googled "learn guitar" and there are ebooks and video courses out there but I don't know if any of them would work. Does anyone in here know for sure or could recommend a particular program?

Although there are a lot of decent books and software packages you can buy, you should really look a little deeper into the online solutions. For instance, there is a site called Learn Classical Guitar dot com (http://www.learnclassicalguitar.com/) which has a wealth of information for beginners, including lessons. But if it's a book you're really looking for, then check out (I think it's called) Total Classical Guitar Method. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Gibson stranger Registered: 05/18/09 Posts: 5	I always wanted to play electric guitar but since I had a classical guitar already this was my destiny Anyway, I figured out that the easiest way (not necessarily the best way) of learning the guitar for me was the way of trial and error. I only learned a few chords and the rest I was on my own. I listened and tried to play the songs. Eventually, if you are talented you'll be pretty good.

slimpickings newbie Registered: 05/15/09 Posts: 30	Familiarizing myself with the chords first sounds appropriate but I have to learn what those chords are, correct? I'm a total newbie but am interested in learning. So far the best thing seems to be the program recommended by DiamondDave and I'm probably going to be following that.

I have been using the lessons on this site for the past two months. I am making slow progress but that has to do more with the time I have or don't have to practice.

This site has been around for about three and a half years and they have a one week free class. I think it is one week of free unlimited access to the site. So if you have a busy schedule you can log in anytime. Good Luck
