I was wondering if there was any Karaoke programs for the wii? I know there is something for a type of Karaoke for an American Idol version, but I am interested in a basic Karaoke program for the wii. Anybody know?

Hey luvs.. I think EA has put out a new Karaoke title called Boogie, which you should be able to find with a Google search. It's more of a game, though, I think sort of along the lines of the American Idol game and loosely similar to the Guitar Hero products. Other than that, I have not been able to find any "regular" Karaoke programs yet. Anyone else out there seeing a regular Karaoke application for the Wii that is not game-like?

Thanks so much Chris for the information. I will look into the program you mentioned. My family is big into Karaoke and I thought I saw a basic karaoke program for one of the game consoles; no take-offs on Idol or anything, just basic fun karaoke. Thanks again.

Boogie is a game but there is the option of leaving the storyline and just singing karaoke with it. Not sure of how many songs are included, though. You can also record your own music video with Boogie.

You may want to check out GameSpot's review. They are giving it a rating of 5.4 out of 10 saying that the karaoke part doesn't work very well and the story line is hard to understand. Here's a link:

If you still want to buy it, look for it used. Since it has such a poor review, I don't think I would buy it new.

If you want to get even further in depth, there's a new review website out there called metacritic (I believe it's just www.metacritic.com). They take reviews from all over the place and compile them and average them in one spot and one score. You can still view each individual review as you please, but it's nice to see all the different opinions. And for most things I've been able to see at least 20 or 30 reviews on each item. It's pretty sweet.

They also review movies, music/albums, and a bunch of other stuff. Kind of like a mini-Consumer Reports if you will.

I checked it out that is a great site. The reviews are actually pretty good. I just looked at music reviews but looks like a good place to find out about new music.
It looks like the wii game has a new one that has an American Idol competition theme where you compete through an entire season.

The American Idol one I have heard about but it is so commercialized and that drives me so nuts. I actually bought the kids an American Idol Karaoke machine awhile back and it is fine for the job it is intended for.

I have not fooled with these much other than the normal adult setting (bar, drunk, with friends). I was not even aware they had these for many consoles. I know the AI one but I am not thinking that would work with some of the songs they might have plugged into the deal (for kids that is).

We have a tradition on Christmas that we do Karaoke at night during and after dessert. I usually buy a few karaoke cd's as gifts so we can try out some new songs. We have so much fun. Everybody loves it.

You may also try renting it from a video store. I don't know if it is available but I always try a game out either in store or by rent before buying it.

I know. I always forget to try renting the games first before shelling out the money to try it out first. I really should go to rent it first and see if we like it.

I love our Wii. I know there are several types of games that use the microphones. Most are like Hannah Montana or American Idol. How about the Sing it game? I think it's just regular Karaoke. I have never heard of the EA game boogie, but it sounds like something that we would love.

What is the Hannah Montana game for the Wii? Do you sing to her songs? Does it show the words on the screen? It sounds like something my daughter would love. I will have to look into it.

It's a great game. You actually sing the songs that she sings and there is a lot of intereaction. It's a lot like High School Musical. My daughter loved those 2 games when they came out. She has outgrown them now (almost 13).

I hadn't heard of these games for the Wii. I'll have to look into them as my friends would probably love to do some karaoke when they come over. I might try and rent them first to see if they're worth buying.

My daughter does as well. It would be her #1 game I am sure. She loves Hannah Montana and High School Musical. I will have to check these games out for her (and maybe myself smile ).

We just bought a large hi-def television, and I have refused to get a Wii because I don't my 4 year old losing the controller and throwing it at the screen. These singing and karaoke like games might be perfect for my girls. They are complete hams!

I'm with you on this one loveofmusic. I too love to sing and dance and I love these games. Sometimes I play them more than my daughter.
We get to laughing so hard when we are playing, it's great bonding time.

You know, the Wii has the straps on the controller now. They can secure the strap to their arm and it won't go flying. If you are still worried about this, the karaoke games would be great for them. smile

I haven't yet bought myself a Wii but it is on my list and now I have another reason to get it. Every since I saw the commercial for the karaoke for it I've wanted it even more than before! I wonder if it will make me sound like Jewel? smile
