I think we have spoke of guitars for little ones but what about a mini mic. set? My girl is getting into music (not any specific genre) right now a great deal and I am wondering if I should add in a mini mic and recorder set that she could mess around with too.

Creativity is the key to music. Give a kid a microphone and I guarantee you'll see creativity at it's best. I had a mic and tape recorder when I was a kid and I would spend hours doing everything from singing to rapping to playing drums on buckets. I recorded everything.

I'm with Chitzy. I used to record to tape with a karaoke machine from some department store my parents had. I even read books into that thing and then played with tape speeds.
Come to think of it, it also resulted in a good few ruined cassettes, but then I'd just take them apart to find out what was inside! Good old times man.

These days, you can buy handheld digital recorders for less than $100 -- no tape to get tangled and they have a built-in microphone. I agree that you're never too young to start experimenting with this type of thing. You might also consider a cheap karaoke machine that will let you sing along with a recording and record your vocal.

Yeah, Laklander. I'd highly recommend anything by Zoom, even though they're a bit over $100, but not by much last I checked. Other than that, Sony always has some solid construction, and they make good recorders down into the $40-70 range.
