Does anyone out there know where I can find a relatively inexpensive, used, Tobias 4 string wood grained bass? I would love to have a bass in my home recording studio and I remember playing one of these years ago. I don't want to spend a lot, so I'm looking in the $100-$200 range. Doesn't need to be anything fancy.

I know that my brother in law purchased a guitar online through craigslist. He made sure that the purchase was from somebody in his general area. This way, if there was a problem, he could go back to the seller. I also know of a few people who have looked through the classifieds of their local newspapers and had luck.

No problem, Chris. I have purchased some fairly big ticket items on Ebay and had good luck. I tend to only bid from sellers that have a stellar reputation. I am sure you know all that, blah blah blah, but we have to be so careful with our money. I think that a musician selling a prized possession will not be any problem. Good luck.

A 4-string Tobias bass for $200? Good luck buddy. Those things are easily around $1500 and up even used. I think the Basic model starts around $2200 new. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong or if I'm thinking of a different brand... but...

Okay, so that's the cheapest Tobias I could find new. Figure around $800 used at a good price.

Dude, if that's all you're looking to spend, just grab yourself an old-used Peavey or something.

The BXP series is pretty awesome and they do neck-through basses as well. A solid used one could go for around $200 or so in good condition. You could even upgrade the electronics to the same Bartolini's that Tobias puts in his basses.

I could swear MusicYo was selling a foreign made version years back in the beginner price range. Definitely could be wrong, though.

My guess is that anyone getting rid of a Tobias for around $200 either really needs the money or has no idea what they have.
